I recently was asked in an interview, what I could do with $1,000. My answer was “What can’t I do with $1,000?” This week thanks to your support, we are wiring $3,000 to a partner in Haiti who will give it to another non-profit there, Schools for Haiti, who will dig a well at an orphanage for disabled children that we have taken under our wing. Next week, another non-profit, One Ball, One Village, will stop by and put a complete water filtration system on that newly dug well. In 7 days the lives of 24 children, as well as the family who cares for them will forever be changed.
This week, the husband of the woman who runs that orphanage, has to get on a motorbike every morning, strapped down with 5 gallon jugs and travel 1/2 mile just to get water for drinking, bathing, laundry, cooking, and virtually everything that goes along with caring for 24 children. This week his first thought when he wakes up is about the next hour he is going to spend carting water back and forth so that they can do the simplest of things like showering and making breakfast. This week, Mackencia, will have to take a portion of that water, put it in a jug and add additives to it before they can even take a sip, in order to prevent disease and infection caused by unclean water. This week in the afternoon, before they finish laundry and cook dinner for the night, someone will have to hop on that motorbike and take another 1/2 mile trip down that hill to fill those water jugs again. This week will be so much different than the next.
Next week, Mackencia can wake up and start breakfast before the kids even stir using water from the well in their backyard. Next week, her husband can get up at a normal hour and help Mackencia get all those kids ready for their day, instead of focusing the first hour of his day on getting water from the well 1/2 mile away. Next week, they will only have to walk 20 feet to fill the washtub to clean the clothes and do all that laundry. Next week, those 24 children can simply walk up to that well, pull that hand pump and get a drink of fresh, purified water anytime they like. What a difference 7 days makes.
What can I do with $1,000? Well, I will take that $1,000, I will add the donations we received last week of $500 from a dear friend from high school. I will then spend hours on the phone, to find a corporate donor willing to match that $1,500. I will then send that $3,000 to a trusted friend in Haiti, who will get another non-profit to dig a well for a quarter of the quoted cost. I will then reach out to another trusted friend who runs another non-profit that cares so much about the health of children around the world that will donate and install a water filtration system for nothing more than a “Thank you.”
What can I do with $1,000, nothing more than entrust it to the maker of heaven and earth, who can work miracles and turn 2 fish and 5 loaves into a feast for 5,000. He lines up the stars and through our obedience He makes great things happen. What can I do with $1,000? By myself, not much, but with you, and the King of Kings, we can change this world.
Please consider donating and joining us on our next projects as we continue to raise funds to build a sewing school in Haiti, refurbish the orphanage in Montrois, send shoes and vitamins to our Hope Center in Guatemala, remodel The Children’s Home Network in Tampa, and be obedient to whatever God calls us to.
